The partnership between NASA and Prada is seen as an exciting step for the future of lunar missions and space exploration.
Italian luxury fashion house Prada and space company Axiom Space have announced a groundbreaking collaboration on lunar spacesuits for NASA’s Artemis III mission.
The power of innovation in spacesuits
The Prada brand is known for its years of experience and groundbreaking work with the Luna Rossa Prada sailing team. “Prada’s technical expertise in raw materials, manufacturing techniques and innovative design concepts will bring advanced technologies developed with the comfort of astronauts on the lunar surface in mind, as well as the crucial human factors missing from space suits,” said Michael Suffredini, CEO of Axiom Space.
Lorenzo Bertelli, marketing director of the Prada Group, described the collaboration as “a true celebration of human creativity and the power of innovation to advance civilization.”
AxEMU spacesuit
The AxEMU spacesuit will provide astronauts with advanced capabilities for space exploration while providing the human systems NASA needs to access, live and work on the lunar surface. These spacesuits use NASA’s Exploration External Transport Mobility Unit (xEMU) spacesuit design, which has evolved to provide greater flexibility, the ability to withstand harsh environmental conditions and specialized tools for exploration and scientific opportunities.
The new AxEMU custom glove design will allow astronauts to fulfill their exploration needs and scientific opportunities by working with customized tools.
NASA and Prada’s partnership is seen as an exciting step forward for the future of lunar missions and space exploration. This collaboration represents a fusion of technology, fashion and cutting-edge design, symbolizing an important step towards humanity’s advancement in space.
