Police in Germany have reported the largest cryptocurrency seizure in history. German authorities confiscated 50,000 Bitcoin worth $2.17 billion.
Coindesk said that the seized Bitcoins are allegedly tied to the activities of a piracy website that violated the Copyright Act in 2013. One of the two suspects stated that he voluntarily gave the Bitcoins to the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA).
Although formal legal procedures have yet to begin, the ongoing investigation is currently looking into charges of commercial money laundering in the wake of this occurrence.
Final decision on the use of Bitcoins is pending. The police noted in a statement that no final decision on how to use the confiscated Bitcoins had been made. As the process progresses, the financial consequences of the occurrence and next stages are eagerly anticipated.
