The stolen documents may hurt electric vehicle market of Volkswagen competitiveness and risk financial loss.

German automotive giant Volkswagen operations were seriously jeopardized after a major breach in cybersecurity. The attack on the company’s IT systems led to the leak of more than 19,000 sensitive documents. These documents contain important information about the company’s operations, plans and especially its electric mobility technologies.

Volkswagen’s internal security team detected the security breach when they noticed unusual activity on company networks. The attack’s complexity reflects a well-organized, well-resourced gang.

The stolen documents could negatively affect Volkswagen’s competitiveness in the electric vehicle market and pose a serious risk of financial loss. Following this incident, the company decided to restructure its IT systems. The restructure will feature improved real-time monitoring technologies, cyber security team expansion, and data security employee training.
