Apple Issues ‘Urgent’ Update Warning: Spyware Discovery on Devices

The US has sanctioned Israel’s NSO Group since 2021 for its Pegasus hacking tool, which has been used by certain countries to target journalists and dissidents beyond their borders. The zero-click exploit, which requires no user involvement, has been used to infect iPhones running Apple’s newest operating system. Citizen Lab, a senior researcher at the University of Toronto’s Munk School, alerted Apple Inc. to the problem, which was quickly examined and remedied. The US has sanctioned NSO Group since 2021 for its Pegasus hacking tool, which has been tied to eavesdropping on senior persons in Armenia, including a UN official.

Pegasus does not operate on phone lines with the +1 country code used in the United States and Canada, according to the business. Citizen Lab advises everyone who may be at danger to install Lockdown Mode on their devices, which severely limits applications and capabilities on a phone. The news comes as the NSO Group is under greater scrutiny throughout the world, with Poland’s Senate announcing the findings of an inquiry into the use of Pegasus during the 2019 legislative elections.
