Is Samsung and AMD’s Exynos partnership coming to an end?

Samsung and AMD’s partnership to bring high graphics power to Exynos processors is coming to an end, according to some leaks. The partnership was announced in 2019 and was first realized with the Galaxy S22 series, which launched in 2021.

According to the leaks, Samsung and AMD’s partnership will end in 2024. This means that Samsung will stop using AMD’s graphics cores in Exynos processors.

The exact reasons for the leaks are not known, but some possible reasons are claimed to be based on the following grounds:

  • Cost: AMD’s graphics cores are more expensive than Samsung’s own graphics cores. Samsung may choose to focus on its own graphics cores to reduce costs.
  • Performance: AMD’s graphics cores offer better performance than Samsung’s own graphics cores. However, this performance difference may not be enough for some users.
  • Competitors: Apple and Qualcomm have powerful graphics cores in their processors. Samsung may choose to focus on its own graphics cores to compete with these rivals.

The end of Samsung and AMD’s partnership will mean a significant change in Exynos processors. If Samsung decides to focus on its own graphics cores, Exynos processors could see a drop in graphics performance.

Samsung launched the Exynos 2200 processor in 2022. This processor used AMD’s RDNA 2 graphics cores. However, the Exynos 2200 processor offered lower performance than the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor.

Samsung will launch the Exynos 2300 processor in 2023. This processor will use AMD’s RDNA 3 graphics cores. However, the performance of the Exynos 2300 processor is not yet known.
