The Event That Stunned the Astronomy World: One of the Biggest Starbursts in History Discovered!

Scientists have discovered an ancient and massive star in the Milky Way Galaxy that exploded in a way we never thought possible. This is the result of a study conducted by the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) and the University of Chicago.

The star, known as J0931+0038, is a low-mass red giant located in the nearly spherical region surrounding the Milky Way’s disk, called the galactic halo. This region contains many old and strange stars, and astronomers often look here for clues about the early universe.

The chemical composition of J0931+0038 has never been seen before. It is surprisingly low in the odd-numbered elements in the periodic table (such as sodium and aluminum) and rich in elements close to iron (such as nickel and zinc). The abundances of elements heavier than iron (such as strontium and palladium) are much higher than they should be.
