Google AI Triumph: Wipes Out 170 Million Phony Comments!

The company announced that they have launched a new machine learning algorithm that detects suspicious review activity faster.

In 2023, Google blocked or removed more than 170 million fake reviews that violated its business profile policies. This represents a 45% increase from the previous year. In addition, more than 12 million fake business profiles were deleted from the search engine. This achievement is thanks to a new machine learning algorithm. The company announced that they have launched a new machine learning algorithm that detects suspicious review activity faster.

Google said that over 20 million community reviews are added to Search and Maps every day. This requires constant content curation against malicious actors. The new technology improves algorithms by detecting spikes such as fake reviews or ad clicks. As a result, the company removed five million fake reviews in a matter of weeks.

The new algorithm investigates whether the same review appears on multiple businesses or if a business unexpectedly receives a 5-star review. In this way, the company prevents online fraudsters.

However, Google said it removed 14 million videos that violated its policies. It said this figure was double the previous year. The company also filed a lawsuit against an individual who posted fake reviews on Google Maps and manipulated the services of small businesses. The tech giant also said it blocked more than 2 million attempts to create fake business profiles. This figure doubled compared to the previous year.

However, a new study reveals an increase in unnecessary content on search engines. For this reason, experts are struggling to limit the number of SEO spam constantly flooding results. As a result, the tech giant has introduced improvements to the results page, such as query shortcuts to help users get to what they need faster. It is also working on grouping comparison sites across the web.
