WinRAR Vulnerability Could Allow Hackers to Take Control of Your Computer

A serious problem has been found in the popular WinRAR program that many people use to unzip files on their computers. This issue could let a hacker take control of your computer, and it’s important to know about it.

The problem is called CVE-2023-40477, and it’s a kind of mistake in how WinRAR works. This mistake could let a hacker do things on your computer without you knowing. To make this happen, a hacker would need you to do something, like open a file they sent you.

Someone who looks for computer problems, called a security researcher, found this issue on June 8, 2023, and told the people who make WinRAR about it. They worked fast and fixed the problem by August 2, 2023.
