Threads will receive retention “hooks” from Meta because more than half of its users have left the app

Soon, Meta will release a Twitter-like app Threads

Meta’s Threads Struggles with User Retention Following Launch

After losing more than half of its subscribers in the weeks following its introduction, Meta Platforms CEO Mark Zuckerberg disclosed that the company is focusing extensively on boosting user retention on Threads, its new Twitter rival.

Strategies in Place to Boost User Retention on Threads

Even though retention was higher than planned, Zuckerberg admitted that there is still room for improvement. He called the drop-off “normal” and expressed confidence that retention would improve when the company added additional features such as a desktop version and search functionality. Meta is still hopeful about Threads’ future and is looking on ways to increase retention. One such solution is to integrate Threads with Instagram, allowing Instagram users to access essential Threads content. Chris Cox, Meta’s Chief Product Officer, underlined the necessity of enhancing user retention and effectively engaging users.

Meta’s Positive Earnings Report Spurs Investor Confidence

The conversation concerning Threads’ user retention came after a solid earnings report that pleased investors, resulting in an 8% increase in Meta’s stock. The company’s robust revenue growth estimate foreshadowed a rebound for Meta, which faced skepticism last year due to considerable expenditure on the metaverse amid falling ad sales.

Focusing on Future Technological Advancements and the Metaverse

In addition, Zuckerberg emphasized the company’s progress in augmented and virtual reality technologies, underlining the importance of investing ahead of competitors such as Apple, Google, and Microsoft. He predicts that metaverse technologies will be widely used by the 2030s, and Meta wants to be ready by developing the necessary tools and infrastructure.

Llama 2 AI Model Gains Traction, “Cage Match” Uncertainty Persists

Furthermore, Meta just developed Llama 2, an artificial intelligence model that is freely available for commercial use to developers with fewer than 700 million users. The model has sparked a lot of attention, with over 150,000 download requests in the first week. Regarding the anticipated “cage match” versus Elon Musk, Zuckerberg was unsure whether the event would take place. This implies that any future clash between the two tech titans is still theoretical at this stage.
