WinRAR Vulnerability Could Allow Hackers to Take Control of Your Computer

A serious problem has been found in the popular WinRAR program that many people use to unzip files on their computers. This issue could let a hacker take control of your computer, and it’s important to know about it.

The problem is called CVE-2023-40477, and it’s a kind of mistake in how WinRAR works. This mistake could let a hacker do things on your computer without you knowing. To make this happen, a hacker would need you to do something, like open a file they sent you.

Someone who looks for computer problems, called a security researcher, found this issue on June 8, 2023, and told the people who make WinRAR about it. They worked fast and fixed the problem by August 2, 2023.

It’s important to keep your computer programs up to date to stay safe from issues like this one. So, if you use WinRAR, make sure to get the latest version to keep your computer safe.
