Will artificial intelligence replace us at work? UN investigated!

Will artificial intelligence (AI) replace us at work? This question is constantly being asked. The UN’s latest research says that AI will not replace you in your job, but it will change the way you work. According to the statement, most jobs will not replace humans in AI-only jobs. This is because AI will be partly subject to automation.

In November 2022, OpenAI introduced the world to ChatGPT, triggering a kind of AI revolution. Slowly, more and more companies have come up with their own Al tools. Some thought that these tools would help people in their work, while others were worried about the negative effects. Many believed that AI would replace them in their jobs. Technology experts, including Elon Musk, have also warned of the dark side of emerging technology.

Is AI replacing human jobs?

But a recent study by the United Nations International Labor Organization (ILO) says that AI will change the way we work, but not replace humans in their jobs.

An AFP report says that according to the study, most jobs and industries will only be ‘partially automated’.

The ILO says most companies are “more likely to be complemented rather than replaced by the latest wave of Productive AI such as ChatGPT”.

“Therefore, the biggest impact of this technology is probably not the destruction of jobs. It is likely to be potential changes in the quality of jobs, especially work intensity and autonomy.”

The study also points out that the effects of emerging technology will vary across occupations and regions. It adds that women are more likely to see their jobs affected than men.

Sam Altman: On Al changing jobs…

In an interview with The Atlantic last month, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said that the impact of AI on humanity will not be that positive. He said that many people working on AI claim that it will only be for the good of humans. He said he “claimed” that it would treat them as support and that they would not replace anyone in their jobs. But this is not the case.

“Jobs will absolutely disappear, full stop,” Altman said.

Apart from that, he noted that OpenAI could create something more powerful than ChatGPT. But he also explained that the public would not be ready for such an advance.

“We could have gone and done this in our building here for another five years. We would have been faced with something jaw-dropping,” he said. He added that the public would not be prepared for the ‘shock’ that would follow. the outcome is quite ‘unpleasant’ to imagine.

According to Altman, he believes that in the future a powerful new intelligence will be able to coexist with humans. He also states that he needs time to come to terms with the idea that ChatGPT is a ‘way of delivering news’.
