AMD’s New Releases: Radeon RX 7800 XT and 7700 XT Graphics Cards

AMD unveils new graphics cards. On September 6 this year, AMD will launch its long-awaited Radeon RX 7700 XT and RX 7800 XT graphics cards, which the company unveiled today. Filling the gap between the RX 7900 XT and RX 7600 XT, the RX 7600 XT will compete with the RX 7600 XT launched in December last year and Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 40 series cards, as well as AMD’s own Radeon RX 6000 series. AMD is focusing on 1440p performance.

The Radeon RX 7800 XT is expected to retail for $499, while the RX 7700 XT will retail for $449.

The Radeon RX 7800 XT takes aim at Nvidia’s RTX 4070; the latter has just 12GB of memory compared to 16GB for the Radeon card. AMD’s own results include Cyberpunk 2077m Watch Dogs: Legion, Overwatch 2 and The Last Of Us Part 1, showing a significant difference in performance at 1440p.

Meanwhile, the Radeon RX 7700 XT targets the scalp of the Nvidia RTX 4060 Ti. Here the AMD card has 12 GB, while the RTX 4060 Ti comes with 8 GB or 16 GB. Despite the latter, AMD’s numbers are well ahead of the RX 7700 XT, as you can see in the chart below.

AMD highlights the advantages of its new graphics cards!

AMD wants to emphasize the on-paper advantages of the two new cards, which have more memory than most of their counterparts (except RTX 4060 Ti 16GB), but also wider memory interfaces and more memory bandwidth. For example, the RX 7700XT has a 192-bit memory interface compared to 128-bit for the RTX 4060 Ti 16GB. It also has a memory bandwidth of 432 GB/sec compared to 288 GB/sec for the RTX card. The RX 7700 XT will also compete with the RX 6750 XT, which is proving to be a popular choice for 1080p and 1440p gamers when graphics card prices are high. Meanwhile, the RX 7800XT joins the RX 6800 XT and RX 6900 XT, among other models that PC gamers will want to consider.
