LaLiga has asked Google to help it combat IPTV

Illegal broadcasts are on the rise, especially through unauthorized IPTV streaming services.

LaLiga, Spain’s leading football league, is taking a groundbreaking step to combat piracy. Javier Tebas, the president of LaLiga, has approached Google requesting that certain apps be removed from Android phones to prevent the illegal broadcasting of football matches via unauthorized IPTV streaming services.

With the start of the new football season, Tebas announced the “eradication” of 58 apps used to illegally stream football matches. However, the fact that these apps were downloaded by four million users globally shows that pirated content is a serious problem.

Piracy on the rise

According to the latest data, piracy has increased by 3.3 percent across Europe. With this increase, the football industry also has to fight against pirated content. Illegal broadcasts are on the rise, especially through unauthorized IPTV streaming services.

Call for cooperation with Google

Tebas says that cooperation with Google and other platforms is needed to take more effective steps in the fight against piracy. According to Tebas, removing apps that have already been downloaded can be an important step in the fight against crime.
