Many Android games are already available to ChromeOS users via Google Play, but many of them are designed with a touchscreen interface in mind. This can make playing these games with a keyboard and mouse challenging. Google revealed today that it is testing keyboard controls for select titles with ChromeOS 105 to address this issue.
According to the business, it simulates touch control by mapping touchscreen commands to a desktop system using keyboard presses. He also requested that developers include keyboard controls in their games in order for them to run properly on non-touchscreen Chromebooks.
“By converting keystrokes into simulated touch events, the game control functionality enables players to utilize the keyboard to interact with on-screen buttons and virtual joysticks, resulting in a far better experience for games with limited or no keyboard support,” the business explained in a blog post.

If you run ChromeOS 105 on a device with a keyboard and mouse (or touchpad), a keyboard overlay will display with controls that replicate touch behavior in a supported game. Users will be able to disable/enable keyboard overlays, disable game controls, and configure in-game control keys with this update (accessible via the settings square in the centre-right of the screen).

Google cautioned customers that because this is an initial version of keyboard functionality, they should not anticipate all Google Play games to work flawlessly on ChromeOS.
