Ex-Yahoo CEO Confesses Her Regret About Acquiring Tumblr Rather Than Investing in Netflix

Marissa Mayer, the former CEO of Yahoo, has some misgivings about her departure from the position six years ago. She was extensively involved in the $1.1 billion acquisition of Tumblr, a social blogging platform, in 2013, but it quickly became evident that the price was way too expensive. Yahoo has explored purchasing Netflix or Hulu in addition to Tumblr. However, Netflix’s market valuation exceeds $140 billion, while Disney has controlled a controlling stake in Hulu since 2019.

Mayer also stated that she picked the incorrect person to be her chief operational officer and that she wishes she had done the tax-free Alibaba split, which would have saved shareholders $10 billion while allowing Yahoo to remain an independent business. Yahoo said three months ago that it will cut approximately 1,000 positions and significantly reduce staff later this year.
