Apple is the latest corporation to prohibit internal usage of ChatGPT and comparable technologies, ironically just as the OpenAI chatbot launches on iOS as a mobile app.
The Wall Street Journal broke the story yesterday after reviewing an internal Apple document warning staff of the prohibition. According to the letter, Apple’s fears are similar to those of other corporations that have prohibited the use of ChatGPT internally, specifically that the AI could leak sensitive corporate information shared with it.
Apple is also purportedly blocking GitHub’s automatic coding tool, Copilot. Apple’s AI plans have long been rumored, with the corporation perhaps developing its own LLM to compete with ChatGPT and Google Bard.
