This feature is supported by a model capable of text-to-speech conversion.
OpenAI announced that ChatGPT’s voice chat feature, which was only available to Plus and Enterprise subscribers in September, is now available for free for all mobile device users.
OpenAI announced on its official X (Twitter) account, “Voice ChatGPT is now available to all users for free. Download the app on your phone and tap the headset icon to start a conversation.”
Commenting on this important announcement, OpenAI co-founder Greg Brockman said, “Try it. It’s completely changing the ChatGPT experience.” Brockman announced his return to OpenAI after this post.
The voice chat feature allows users to have real conversations with the chatbot if they wish. The feature is powered by a text-to-speech model that can generate human-like voices from just text and short sample conversations. OpenAI collaborates with voice actors to perform the voices, offering five different voice options.
Users can enable the new feature from the Settings menu in the Android or iOS ChatGPT apps by clicking on the headset icon. This step expands the boundaries of artificial intelligence by adding an interactive dimension to users’ ChatGPT experience.
