This collaboration could mark a significant turning point not just for BYD, but also for China’s electric vehicle market.
China’s leading electric vehicle manufacturer, BYD, has entered into a strategic partnership with technology giant Huawei for its new “hardcore” electric SUV brand, Fang Cheng Bao. This partnership is part of BYD’s efforts to close the technology gap with Tesla and other Chinese competitors.
Huawei’s Qiankun ADS 3.0 Technology to Make Its Debut
BYD’s new “professional–level” Fang Cheng Bao brand will be the first to use Huawei’s advanced driver assistance system, Qiankun ADS 3.0. This system is set to elevate the “intelligent hardcore” driving experience in the off-road segment to a new level. Features like the City Navigation on Autopilot (NOA) provided by Huawei’s technology will make BYD’s new SUVs even more competitive.
Qiankun ADS 3.0 boasts the first end-to-end network architecture that enables vehicles to autonomously drive from one parking spot to another. The system can autonomously detect and manage complex scenarios such as gates, roundabouts, and narrow U-turns. Additionally, vehicles can be remotely controlled for parking, and obstructing vehicles can be moved if necessary.
Fang Cheng Bao 8: The Next-Generation Off-Road SUV
The Fang Cheng Bao brand was launched by BYD in June of last year, with its first vehicle, the Bao 5, hitting the market in November 2023. Now, the Fang Cheng Bao 8 model, equipped with Huawei’s smart driving technology, will be the first product from this partnership. The Bao 8 is positioned as a hybrid off-road SUV and is expected to launch at a starting price of $70,200 (RMB 500,000).
BYD and Huawei: Ushering in a New Era of Smart Driving in China
Huawei’s Qiankun ADS 3.0 technology aims to provide a more human-like, safer, and more efficient driving experience. With this collaboration, BYD plans to rapidly advance its in-house smart driving technologies and strengthen its position in the market.
By forming this strategic partnership with Huawei, BYD takes a significant step forward in advancing its new Fang Cheng Bao brand. The company aims to offer a strong alternative to its competitors, particularly in the off-road segment, and consolidate its leadership in China’s smart driving technology.
This new collaboration could be a turning point not just for BYD, but for the entire electric vehicle market in China.
