A former Tesla employee said he was concerned about the use of AI in the autopilot feature.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk argues that Tesla has the best AI in the real world. But a former Tesla employee disagrees. Former Tesla service technician Lukasz Krupski said in a BBC News interview that he is concerned about the use of AI in the autopilot feature and that the company’s self-driving technology is not yet ready for use.
In May, Krupski leaked 100 gigabytes of confidential Tesla data to German newspaper The Handelsblatt. The data includes nearly 4,000 registered customer complaints. Krupski also claims he was fired after raising security concerns.
Tesla’s autopilot issues and safety complaints
According to investigations, documents containing accidents that occurred while using Tesla’s autopilot feature were leaked. Thousands of customer complaints included “phantom braking” and sudden acceleration issues. Krupski claims to have found evidence in internal data that protocols regarding the safety of driver assistance technology were violated.
The lawyer representing Tesla says Krupski is a “disgruntled former employee” and that the leaked material was misused. According to The Handelsblatt, the files include more than 23,000 files related to Tesla’s driver assistance program.
