Google is adding generative AI technology to shopping, with the goal of competing with e-commerce companies such as Amazon.com. On Wednesday, the business introduced technologies that would help customers understand how clothing fits them, regardless of body size. It also presented new methods for researching trip locations and mapping routes by utilizing generative AI, which can generate text, graphics, or even video from basic cues. Google is dedicated to an open environment and a healthy online, and the new features seek to make Google the destination where customers shop and businesses engage with consumers.
Google’s new virtual “try-on” function will allow users to examine how garments fit on a variety of body shapes ranging from XXS to 4XL. The series begins with women’s shirts, in collaboration with companies such as Anthropologie and Everlane, and then moves on to men’s clothes. As consumers test out its new “search generative experience” service, which is exclusively available through the business’s experimental Search Labs offering, the company is also providing more sources of information.
Google Maps is getting new features including immersive view, which utilizes AI to offer visitors 3D tours of locations, and glanceable instructions. These capabilities enable users to see turn-by-turn directions for walking, cycling, and driving modes as well as updated ETAs as they follow routes in real time.
