Nvidia and Amazon Sign Major AI Infrastructure Chip Deal

Nvidia has signed a multi-year agreement with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to supply AI chips and related infrastructure, reinforcing the strategic partnership between the chipmaker and one of the world’s largest cloud providers.

Under the deal, Nvidia is expected to deliver one million GPUs to AWS through 2027, alongside networking and data-processing technologies designed to support large-scale AI workloads.

AI Capacity Expansion at Hyperscale

The agreement reflects continued growth in demand for AI computing infrastructure, particularly among hyperscalers investing heavily in model training and inference capacity.

According to the report, deliveries will begin this year and continue through the end of 2027. AWS had previously confirmed an order for one million GPUs, but had not disclosed a detailed timeline.

The collaboration goes beyond graphics processors. It also includes:

  • Networking solutions
  • Specialized AI chips
  • Infrastructure technologies aimed at improving inference efficiency

Inference — the stage where AI models generate responses for users — has become a major focus area as cloud providers work to optimize cost and performance at scale.

AWS Adopts a Hybrid Infrastructure Approach

One notable aspect of the agreement is AWS’s reported decision to integrate Nvidia networking equipment into its data centers.

That marks a meaningful shift, as Amazon has traditionally relied heavily on in-house networking systems. The move suggests AWS is increasingly willing to combine internal technology with external platforms where scale and performance gains are critical.

Nvidia said efficient AI processing requires a broader mix of chip architectures rather than relying on a single processor type. AWS appears to be aligning its infrastructure strategy accordingly.

Why It Matters

The deal underscores two major trends shaping the AI market in 2026:

  • Hyperscalers are locking in long-term AI capacity
  • Infrastructure partnerships are becoming as strategic as software models

For Nvidia, the agreement further strengthens its position as the leading hardware supplier to large cloud platforms.

For AWS, it highlights the urgency of expanding AI infrastructure fast enough to meet rising enterprise demand — even if that means blending proprietary systems with external technologies.
