Nvidia and MediaTek collaborate on connected car technologies

Nvidia Corp and MediaTek Inc have launched a partnership to build sophisticated automotive infotainment systems that can stream media, play games, and communicate with drivers using artificial intelligence. In its system-on-chips for infotainment screens, MediaTek will use an Nvidia graphic processing unit chiplet and Nvidia software. These technologies will be interoperable with Nvidia-based automated driving systems. Dashboard displays may show the vehicle’s surroundings, while cameras would keep an eye on the driver. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang feels that the automotive business need strong firms that can collaborate with it for decades.

As in-vehicle displays and entertainment systems get more complicated, the collaboration would supply chips that can power every element of a car. Qualcomm, MediaTek’s main smartphone competitor, has also been wooing automakers. Nvidia’s collaboration with MediaTek expands its access to the $12 billion market for infotainment system-on-chips. The first goods are scheduled for release in late 2025. Nvidia has concentrated its efforts on luxury automobile companies such as Mercedes-Benz and Jaguar Land Rover, whereas MediaTek specializes on mobile networking and Android systems.
