Uber Eats and Getir Join Forces to Expand Grocery Delivery in the United Kingdom and Europe
Uber Eats and Getir, a rapid commerce operator, have announced a grocery delivery relationship that will begin in the United Kingdom. In the next weeks, the relationship will be expanded to other European markets where both companies operate. Getir, which ran into pricing and financial issues early this year, is hoping to expand its customer base by making its service available on Uber’s platform. Getir is leveraging its network of dark stores, including those acquired from German rival Gorillas, to support the Uber Eats alliance. The collaboration seeks to give users access to over 2,000 products, with deliveries expected in minutes.
While Uber Eats already provides food delivery in the UK, the cooperation with Getir is intended to expand its grocery business in other European regions and provide speedier delivery times to UK customers. Uber Eats has continued to witness strong increase in its consumers’ appetite for groceries, with orders in New Verticals topping $5 billion in Gross Bookings in Q1, up over 35% year on year in constant currency.
This collaboration enables Uber Eats to extend its offerings and compete in the rapidly expanding quick commerce industry, which has undergone swings and consolidation in recent years. Getir, which was previously valued at over $12 billion, is looking to expand its grocery delivery services and tap into Uber’s customer base.
The cooperation between Uber Eats and Getir intends to improve grocery delivery services in the UK and extend into other European countries. As the demand for fast commerce rises, this agreement enables Uber Eats to provide a broader choice of grocery alternatives and faster delivery times, positioning the platform to meet changing consumer expectations.
