Urgent Alert: Uninstall Fake Versions of Two Android Apps to Protect Your Bank Account

Immediately remove bogus Signal and Telegram apps from your Android devicez

If you loaded two apps on your Android phone that you thought were the legitimate messaging apps Signal and Telegram, you must delete them right away. Signal Plus Messenger and FlyGram have been deleted from official app stores, however they may still be present on your smartphone. Security experts warn that malware was sent to Android phones.

Apps that are deceptive have been identified

Signal Plus Messenger was available on the Google Play Store for nine months and had over 100 downloads before being withdrawn. In 2021, FlyGram, designed by the same developer, experienced a similar fate. ESET, a Slovak cybersecurity firm, confirmed that these apps masqueraded as versions of Signal and Telegram but carried malware designed to steal personal information.

Immediate Action Is Necessary

The apps may still be on your device even though they have been deleted from legitimate app stores. Both apps have been classified as harmful and capable of stealing personal information by Google. Unlink your Signal and Telegram accounts before removing them to prevent further misuse.

Capabilities for malice

The bogus Telegram software was discovered by ESET researchers to be capable of collecting basic device information, contact lists, Google accounts, and call logs. It also included a capability that allowed attackers to backup data to a remote server. The malicious Signal Plus app had the ability to monitor messages, transfer them to a remote server, record phone calls, and gain access to the device’s cameras.

Expansion and Targeted Regions

Initially aimed at Chinese users, the malware has spread to Ukraine, Poland, the Netherlands, Spain, Portugal, Germany, Hong Kong, and the United States.

Precautions for Safety

Always download programs from approved and respected app stores to protect the safety of your smartphone. Check your Connected Devices list on a regular basis to ensure that no illegal devices have access to your accounts. If you installed the fraudulent apps, you may need to purchase a new phone or conduct a factory reset in order to remove unfamiliar devices from your Signal or Telegram accounts.

Owners of Galaxy phones should also make sure they haven’t installed these apps, which were formerly available in the Galaxy Store.
