The new Vertiv™ TimberMod™ significantly reduces the carbon footprint compared to steel alternatives.
Vertiv, a global provider of critical digital infrastructure and continuity solutions, unveiled Vertiv™ TimberMod, a new version of its innovative Vertiv™ Power Module and SmartMod™ families that uses solid wood as the primary structural component instead of steel for prefabricated modular (PFM) data center solutions.
This groundbreaking introduction, which took place in North America and Europe, as well as the Middle East and Africa (EMEA), demonstrates Vertiv’s commitment to using a more environmentally friendly material that can minimize resource depletion and reduce CO2 emissions. This development demonstrates Vertiv’s commitment to realizing its sustainability goals.
Sustainably harvested solid wood is a renewable building material that not only reduces CO2 emissions throughout its lifecycle, but also has a carbon footprint up to three times lower than steel when transporting the material to the installation site. This environmentally friendly choice reinforces Vertiv’s mission to not only meet high performance standards but also contribute to the global effort to reduce CO2 emissions.
Vertiv TimberMod meets current building structural requirements by providing robust performance in the face of seismic activity, wind forces and structural demands. Beyond its structural capabilities, this innovative solution adds an aesthetic dimension to data center architecture with its sleek and elegant design that blends seamlessly into different environments.
“We are focused on finding innovative solutions in the use of environmentally friendly building materials and processes that can help reduce data center carbon footprints,” said Viktor Petik, Vice President of Vertiv Integrated Modular Solutions. Vertiv TimberMod combines materials from renewable resources to not only provide a more environmentally friendly option, but it does so without sacrificing performance. This has a positive impact on both the environment and the operational efficiency of our customers.”
“Timber data centers are not new, but it has become much more accessible for a major prefabricated modular data center manufacturer to offer a complete data center built entirely of timber with engineering assurance,” said Vlad Galabov, Director of Cloud and Data Center at Omdia.
Vertiv™ TimberMod was introduced at last week’s Vertiv Driving Innovation 2023: The Prefabricated Modular Revolution press conference. Vertiv™ TimberMod represents the newest addition to Vertiv’s expanding portfolio of standard and customizable PFM solutions. The flexible capacity of Vertiv’s prefabricated solutions makes them an ideal choice for small, medium and even hyperscale data centers. They also offer scalability and adaptability to match the dynamic growth of businesses. Easy deployment and flexibility are key features that enable customers to seamlessly expand their data center capabilities.
Vertiv also offers end-to-end services to facilitate rapid deployment and efficient operational processes. This comprehensive support includes commissioning, ongoing maintenance, remote monitoring and training, reinforcing the commitment to provide customers with a holistic solution.
