Alibaba Group Holding Ltd announced a beta version of an artificial intelligence (AI) picture generator for enterprise customers on Friday, as it expands its products in the fast-growing AI industry.
Tongyi Wanxiang’s picture generator will compete with OpenAI’s DALL-E and Midjourney Inc’s Midjourney, both of which are based in the United States and have a big global following.
Tongyi Qianwen, a ChatGPT-like text generator, was introduced in April by Alibaba Cloud, which was just formed from a significant revamp that broke the Chinese tech major into six groups.
Following the success of OpenAI’s ChatGPT chatbot, several prominent Chinese tech businesses are rapidly launching AI products and services. According to McKinsey, generative AI might potentially add $7.3 trillion to the global economy each year.
Although generative AI services have yet to acquire regulatory permission for widespread distribution in China, Baidu Inc and SenseTime Group Inc have recently announced AI picture generators.
ModelScopeGPT, an AI tool for developers, has also been released by Alibaba Cloud.
The Tongyi Wanxiang image generator, which translates approximately as “truth from tens of thousands of pictures,” was shown on Friday at the World Artificial Intelligence Conference in Shanghai.
