The move aims to lay a strong foundation for Apple’s future AI products and services.
Apple’s AI-focused lab in Switzerland has recently been growing in strength by transferring talent from Google. According to a Financial Times report, the company continues to grow by hiring Google’s AI experts.
This lab initially focused on the Apple Car project. In 2023, however, it became clear that the lab was focused on all Apple projects, especially in the field of artificial intelligence. In particular, the lab began attracting Google staff when Google’s head of AI and search, John Giannandrea, joined Apple in 2018. According to research by the Financial Times, at least 36 Google AI experts have followed Giannandrea to Apple. Apple’s lab is particularly looking for specialists in generative AI. According to the report, recruiters are using two different locations in Zurich to hire these staff.
Even in the past, Apple was known to be working in the field of artificial intelligence. Chuck Wooters, who worked on Siri for 21 months, states that Apple was already working on neural networks. This is a sign that Apple’s commitment and capabilities in the field of artificial intelligence have been going on for a long time.
Apple’s AI lab and staff transfers from Google continue to strengthen the company’s leadership in AI. The move aims to build a strong foundation for Apple’s future AI products and services.
