M4 Chip: New 10-Core CPU
M4 features a new 10-core CPU consisting of four performance cores and six efficiency cores. The next generation cores have a broader decoding and execution engine for the performance cores. For efficiency cores, there is a deeper execution engine. Both core types have advanced, next-generation ML accelerators.
M4 supports hardware acceleration of the AV1 codec in addition to H.264, HEVC and ProRes. Recent rumors suggest that Macs with M4 support will arrive later this year.
