AI Power Couple: Cerebras x G42’s $100 Million Deal
Cerebras Systems, a startup attempting to challenge Nvidia’s dominance in AI computing, has inked a large contract with G42, a technology group located in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), valued roughly $100 million. The collaboration calls for the delivery of up to nine AI supercomputers, with G42 purchasing three Condor Galaxy systems to be manufactured in the United States. The first supercomputer will be operational this year, with two more following in early 2024. The companies are discussing the possibility of adding six more supercomputers by late 2024.
Cerebras Competes Against Nvidia in AI Race
The agreement with G42 comes at a time when cloud computing companies around the world are looking for alternatives to Nvidia’s processors, which are in limited supply due to the increasing popularity of AI services like ChatGPT. Cerebras’ goal is to create a viable alternative to Nvidia’s supremacy in the AI computing market. Cerebras CEO Andrew Feldman sees this alliance as the start of a strategic collaboration and plans to spend three months in the UAE working with G42 to build supercomputer-based computing capabilities.
G42’s Global AI Revolution Has Begun
G42, an Abu Dhabi-based technology group, plans to use the Cerebras devices to provide AI computing services to industries such as healthcare and energy. G42 has previously received considerable funding from Silver Lake, a tech investment firm sponsored by the UAE’s government wealth fund. The cooperation will also look into the prospect of selling extra capacity to customers in the open-source AI community, which would broaden supercomputing capabilities beyond their primary applications.
