Foxconn Plans to Quadruple Investment and Employment in India Amidst Rising US-China Tensions
Foxconn Technology Group, a key manufacturing partner for Apple, is set to significantly expand its investment and workforce in India. This move underscores a growing shift in industrial activity away from China amid escalating tensions between the United States and China.
The Taiwanese conglomerate, known for its flagship unit Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., is planning to expand its operations in South Asia, including the establishment of a 300-acre facility near Bengaluru airport. This facility will be involved in the production of iPhones and is expected to generate more than 100,000 jobs.
This expansion signals the potential risk for China to lose its dominant position as the world’s leading producer of consumer electronics. Companies like Apple, in response to global supply chain challenges exacerbated by the pandemic and the Ukraine crisis, are increasingly exploring alternative manufacturing locations such as India and Vietnam.
