This feature will first be available to Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro users.
Google announced at the Made by Google event that it will integrate the Bard AI chatbot into Google Assistant. This integration aims to provide more meaningful answers for mobile users by combining Bard’s “generative thinking” with Assistant’s personalized assistance.
Bard with Google Assistant
Google says this integration aims to provide a “more personalized assistant” similar to the version of Alexa integrated with generative AI. This new feature will help users with tasks such as planning, searching for emails, creating shopping lists and sending messages.
Multiple ways to interact: Text, voice and image
Users will be able to interact with the Assistant via text, voice or image through Bard. This will allow users to communicate with the assistant in a more conversational way, providing a richer experience than the standard Google Assistant.
Google also shared use cases for Assistant and Bard during the product launch. For example, when coming to a fork in the road on a hike, taking a photo of the trail marker and asking “Which path do you recommend?”, the Assistant and Bard will instantly respond with the most appropriate path. This will enable users to have more practical and interactive experiences in real life.
Google says the Bard with Assistant feature is still in early development and will be available for testing in the near future. This feature, which will first be offered to Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro users, will reach a wide audience on Android and iOS platforms in the coming months.
