Google has committed €25 million ($26.98 million) to facilitate the education of individuals in Europe on artificial intelligence (AI) usage. This initiative, unveiled on Monday, aims to empower social enterprises and nonprofits by opening applications to those entities that are positioned to benefit significantly from AI training. Additionally, Google plans to host a series of “growth academies” designed to aid businesses in leveraging AI to expand their operations. Moreover, the company has broadened the accessibility of its online AI training courses, now available in 18 languages, to foster wider participation.
Adrian Brown, the executive director of the Centre for Public Impact, which collaborates with Google on this nonprofit initiative, highlighted the potential of AI to widen existing socio-economic and employment disparities. The program aspires to mitigate such inequalities by enhancing the AI knowledge, skills, and confidence of people across Europe, ensuring inclusive progress.
In a related development, Google said last month that it would be investing one billion dollars to build a data center outside of London. This move was made in response to the growing demand for internet services in the region. On a land that spans 33 acres and was purchased by Google in the year 2020, the facility will be erected in Waltham Cross, which is approximately 24 kilometers north of the central business district of London. This expansion is a reflection of Google’s continued efforts to strengthen its infrastructure and service capabilities in the region. It also highlights the company’s commitment to supporting the growth of digital technology and technical advancement in Europe.
