How to organize and synchronize bookmarks

If you are an active user of bookmarks, you might be interested in this content. Here are ways to organize your saved sites in Chrome, Firefox and Edge and synchronize them between different devices.

Have your browser bookmarks become disorganized? The more web pages you save, the longer and more cluttered your bookmark list will become. Especially if you don’t separate them into their own folders.

Don’t worry! Whether you use Chrome, Firefox or Edge, you can work with your existing bookmarks to make them more easily accessible. And with the right tools, you can synchronize your bookmarks across browsers on multiple computers and devices.

First, you’ve probably collected a bunch of bookmarks or favorites, but you haven’t organized them properly. Below, we’ll see how to organize and synchronize everything in each browser.

How to Manage Bookmarks in Chrome

To bookmark your current page in Chrome, simply click on the star at the right end of the web address field. A drop-down menu will appear where you can change the name and location of the bookmarks, place them in the bookmarks bar or in a specific folder.

To get the same menu, you can click on the ellipsis menu in the Chrome toolbar and then choose Bookmarks > Add This Tab to Bookmarks. Or you can bookmark with the Windows keyboard shortcut Ctrl + D or the macOS keyboard shortcut Command + D.

If you add bookmarks without storing or organizing them sensibly, they can easily get out of your control. To organize them, go to Settings > Bookmarks > Bookmark Manager.

Now you can add a folder to store certain bookmarks together. Right-click just outside the list of your bookmarks. A drop-down menu offers the commands Add new bookmark and Add new folder. Select the Add new folder command and enter a name. Click Save.

The new folder will appear under the list, but you can drag and drop it wherever you want. You can then drag specific bookmarks to this new folder. To move a bookmark from one folder to another, open the current folder in the bookmark manager, select the bookmark and drag it to its new folder. To delete it completely, right-click on it and select Delete.

If you use Chrome on multiple devices, you may want to synchronize your bookmarks. Click the icon with three dots and select Settings. In the You and Google section, click the Turn Sync On button and make sure you are signed in with your Google account. When prompted to turn on synchronization, click the Yes, I Agree button. Your bookmarks will be synchronized.

How to Manage Bookmarks in Firefox

The process of bookmarking a site in Firefox is similar to that in Chrome. Click the star icon in the URL bar to bookmark the current page. You can also press Ctrl/Command + D or click the hamburger icon in the upper right corner to go to Bookmarks > Add This Page to Bookmarks. Name the bookmark, then press Save.

To edit your bookmarks in Firefox, click the Bookmarks icon on your web page. Then choose Manage Bookmarks to open the Bookmarks Library. Right-click on the menu and select Add a New Folder. You can then organize bookmarks by dragging and dropping them into specific folders. To remove a bookmark, right-click on it and select Delete Bookmark.

As with Chrome, you can synchronize your Firefox bookmarks for use across different devices. In Firefox, click the hamburger icon in the upper right corner and select the Sign In button next to Sync and save data. Type your email address and click the Sign Up or Sign In button.

If you already have a Firefox account, just enter your password. If you don’t, you will be asked to create a password, indicate your age and then select the items you want to synchronize. After you log in, your bookmarks will be synchronized.

Add and Manage Bookmarks in Microsoft Edge

To save a site as a favorite in Microsoft Edge, click the star icon on the right. Choose a name and location for the page, then click OK. To access all your favorites, click the ellipsis icon in the upper right corner of your web browser and select Favorites.

From the Favorites window it is possible to save bookmarks to your current page, add a new folder, and pin the Favorites window as a sidebar. You can access additional features and commands by clicking the ellipsis icon in the Favorites window.

To synchronize bookmarks across multiple devices with Edge, click the profile icon in the top toolbar and select an account. Click Sign in to synchronize data, then sign in with your preferred account. To review or change synced items, click the ellipsis icon and select Settings > Profile > Sync, then make sure the switch for Favorites is on.

Synchronize Bookmarks in Multiple Browsers

It is possible to synchronize bookmarks across multiple web browsers. However, the disadvantage of Firefox, Chrome and Edge’s bookmark synchronization features is that they do not work across different web browsers. You may be using two or more of these browsers. To keep your bookmarks consistent, you will need a third-party bookmark synchronization tool.
