Google’s new phones will be powered by the rumored Tensor G4 chip based on Samsung’s updated 4nm process.
Leaked renders of the Google Pixel 9 reveal an unexpected major upgrade. Renders of the Pixel 9 Pro had already leaked surprisingly early, showcasing an iPhone-like design with flat edges and a redesigned camera island taken from the Pixel Fold.
The renders of the Pixel 9 hint at a larger generational upgrade compared to the Pixel 9 Pro. The phone’s dimensions are said to be 152.8 x 71.9 x 8.5mm (12mm including the camera bump), making it slightly taller and wider than the Pixel 8. The screen size is being reduced from 6.2 inches to 6.1 inches.

The Pixel 9 has straight edges like its big brother, and the camera bar no longer extends all the way to the edges. While this is a big change in itself, it’s overshadowed by what looks like a periscope telephoto camera. The Pixel 8 only includes a main and ultra-wide camera and is considered one of the best camera phones despite the lack of a telephoto camera. With a third sensor, the Pixel 9 will become a real competitive threat.
This means that for the first time a standard Pixel model will be equipped with three cameras. Google doesn’t seem to be shy about reducing the feature gap between the Pixel 9 and 9 Pro, while putting more emphasis on AI. The company is not only equipping the smaller model with a third sensor, but also adding a thermometer sensor, which was previously exclusive to the Pro model.
Google’s new phones will be powered by the rumored Tensor G4 chip based on Samsung’s updated 4nm process. This represents a significant evolution of the Pixel lineup in terms of design and features, offering its users a broader photography experience. These innovations of the Pixel 9 are likely to increase its competitiveness in the market and strengthen Google’s position in the smartphone industry.
