Meta Wants to Resurrect Threads with a Web Version
Meta Platforms is preparing to launch a web version of Threads, its text-first social media network, in an effort to boost user engagement. After the first wave of users has subsided, this highly anticipated online version is expected to improve Threads’ usability for power users such as brands, corporation accounts, advertisers, and journalists.
While no official launch date has been announced, Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri has stated that the web version of Threads is nearing completion. According to reports, the deployment might begin as soon as this week, according to the Wall Street Journal.
Threads: A Popularity Rollercoaster
Threads debuted as an Android and iOS app on July 5, quickly gaining 100 million users in just five days. However, the platform’s popularity dwindled as users returned to the more familiar X (previously Twitter) following the first rush to discover Meta’s new offering.
Daily active users of the Android app fell from 49.3 million to 10.3 million in just over a month, according to analytics firm Similarweb on August 10.
New Features Are Implemented Quickly
Meanwhile, Threads’ management is working hard to develop new features that will pique users’ interest. The option to establish post notifications for specific accounts and view them in a chronological feed format is one of the most recent additions. Threads will also have improved search features, allowing users to search for individual posts as well as accounts.
As Meta attempts to re-establish user momentum with Threads, the upcoming online version and feature updates aim to meet the changing needs of its user base.
