Microsoft Authenticator Requires Phone Number Matching

The feature is designed to prevent unauthorized access to users’ accounts.

Microsoft Authenticator has announced the launch of an innovative feature to help users safeguard their accounts. This function will necessitate that the phone number used to log in matches the phone number saved in the account.

Previously, Microsoft Authenticator only supported two-factor authentication. To log in, users had to submit both a password and a verification code. Users will only need to input the proper phone number to log in with the new feature.

According to the description, the feature is intended to prevent unwanted access to users’ accounts. As a result, if an attacker uses a bogus phone number to gain access to a user’s account, Microsoft Authenticator will prompt the attacker to enter the correct phone number, preventing the attacker from logging in. The number matching capability of Microsoft Authenticator will be accessible in an upcoming iOS and Android update.
