OneDrive has been completely revamped: AI, Fluent design and more

This update allows users and businesses to manage their files more effectively.

Microsoft has announced a new update to its OneDrive cloud storage service. Featuring an AI-powered Copilot system, a Fluent design refresh and major improvements to the way businesses share and use cloud documents, this update allows users and businesses to manage their files more effectively.

Artificial intelligence, a revamped interface and much more

OneDrive is home to trillions of files for consumers and businesses, with 2 billion files added every day. To make the experience even better, Microsoft has fundamentally changed OneDrive’s main web app for business users. The refreshed interface is more in line with the Windows 11 interface, better aligned with recent changes to the Office apps, and integrated with File Explorer design updates.

Users will now have access to file recommendations in an AI-powered section called “Recommended for You”. These suggestions will save users time by quickly showing them files that impact their workday. Along with this update, OneDrive’s shared view has also been revamped and updated to include all files shared through Teams, emails or other methods.

A new feature called ‘people view’ has also been added to make file management with colleagues easier. There’s also the ability to set favorite files and sync them across Windows 11, OneDrive web and other platforms. The search experience has also been updated with AI capabilities, making it easier to find friends and family members in photos.

OneDrive also improves the file creation process. A new “attach” button offers template suggestions for presentations and other documents, giving users a quick start. Improvements including offline support and a “Files As Needed” feature will help users have a more efficient experience.

Microsoft also plans to integrate Copilot AI into OneDrive. Copilot will summarize important changes and new comments on files, giving users a daily overview. This feature will be available in December for users with a Microsoft 365 Copilot license.
