Samsung’s new invention: the standalone Samsung Find App with One UI 6.1

Samsung Find, introduced with One UI 6.1, replaces the find feature in the SmartThings app.

With the One UI 6.1 update, Samsung has introduced a new app called Samsung Find on the Galaxy S24 series. This new app is designed as a platform that will allow users to find Samsung devices and SmartTags more easily.

Samsung Find, introduced with One UI 6.1, replaces the find feature in the SmartThings app. This change allows users to use a separate app for items they track with Samsung SmartTags. According to Mishaal Rahman, the Samsung Find app shows your Galaxy devices and items linked to your Galaxy SmartTags in a map view over the SmartThings Find network.

The app’s structure gives users a familiar experience. It includes three tabs – Devices, People and Items. The Devices tab makes it easy to view tracking devices, phones and watches, while the People tab allows you to track the locations of friends and family. However, according to Rahman, the Samsung Find app currently lacks a “report when left behind” feature that prevents users from leaving their devices behind. This feature is available in the SmartThings app and will be added to Samsung Find in future updates.

The Galaxy S24 Ultra can switch between all rear camera lenses when recording at 4K60. This wasn't possible on the S23 Ultra.

Despite the introduction of the app, the SmartThings app is not completely abandoning the finding feature for now. The presence of a standalone app on Galaxy devices hints at the potential for a complete separation from the SmartThings app in the future. For now, the Samsung Find app comes pre-installed on the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+ and Galaxy S24 Ultra, and Galaxy device owners who have received the latest One UI 6.1 update can download the app from the Galaxy Store.

This innovation is part of Samsung’s effort to improve the user experience and offer more customized solutions for device tracking. The Samsung Find app allows users to track their devices and SmartTags more efficiently, making it easier to find lost items in everyday life. We can say that this step of Samsung is an indicator of its technological innovation and user experience-oriented approach.
