Spotify’s AI feature “DJ” is now available to premium members in the United Kingdom and Ireland. The function promotes music discovery by playing curated music accompanied by AI-powered commentary in English. Using the AI DJ is similar to listening to a radio DJ in many ways.
This function was originally made available to premium users in the United States and Canada in February. The feature is powered by OpenAI technology and is still in development, so there may be some bugs.
Following the function’s launch, the business discovered that Gen Z appreciated the new DJ feature, accounting for 87% of DJ users. Furthermore, the company discovered that users who use the AI DJ on a specific day spend 25% of their listening time with the tool.
According to Spotify, the DJ’s voice is inspired by the company’s head of cultural relations, Xavier “X” Jernigan. For example, it stated that users who tune into the feature will learn about Arlo Parks’ upcoming album “My Soft Machine” before the end of the month. Spotify might eventually leverage this function as a new revenue stream to promote new releases on the platform.
The AI DJ is powered by Spotify’s Sonatic acquisition in 2022, as well as OpenAI technology, according to the company’s announcement at the Stream On event.
The DJ plays tunes automatically, although users can change moods or genres by tapping the AI DJ button. As with any AI-assisted technology, the feature learns more about your preferences as you listen more.
AI DJ is accessible on both iOS and Android devices. You can get to it by tapping on the DJ card in the Music Feed.
