Microsoft announced an innovation that will make life easier for Windows 10 users: Updates are getting smaller! With this change, downloading and installing updates will become much faster and more efficient. This is a huge relief, especially for users with slow or limited internet connections.
A technology from Windows 11 that minimizes update size was brought to Windows 10, enabling the innovation. As Microsoft explained in a blog post, users will now receive updates much more efficiently.

For example, while the update released on April 9, 2024 was 830 MB, the latest update released on April 23, 2024 is only 630 MB in size. This represents about a 22% reduction in the size of updates and will help users save network bandwidth.
Microsoft says that with this new update packaging methodology, Windows 10 version 22H2 users will receive updates in smaller sizes. This is an important step in conserving network bandwidth and time for both individual users and organizations.
However, as we approach the end of Windows 10’s support lifecycle, it makes sense for users to prepare to migrate to Windows 11 (or the next version of Windows). Windows 10’s support lifecycle will end on October 14, 2025.
