Berkshire Hathaway CEO Warren Buffett compared AI’s dangers to nuclear weapons and stated that the technology would be beneficial for fraudsters. Speaking at Berkshire Hathaway’s annual shareholder meeting, Buffett pointed to AI’s ability to deceive people.
Buffett noted that AI has a transformative power like nuclear energy and once unleashed, it cannot be reversed. He said AI may be important and permanent, but Berkshire Hathaway’s leadership is adaptable and smart in harnessing its benefits.
Buffett worried that AI may become a “all-time growth industry” for fraud. He said AI is a “genie” like nuclear weapons that cannot be reversed once launched.
Buffett said AI has “enormous potential” for good and evil, and power determines its usage. Since people don’t know what to do with the nuclear “genie,” he couldn’t advise on AI’s future.
